Hi. I’m still here.

My updates haven’t been as frequent as I would like them to be, but hopefully that will change soon. Malakai’s birthday is this Saturday and we are having tons of people over for his party. Needless to say, it’s been pretty hectic around here!

Wanna see my new hair?

I’m a pixie now. Like Posh Spice.

I love having short hair. It’s so easy to manage and it seriously takes me 2 minutes to do my hair. It’s wonderful! I never want to have long hair ever ever again!
Only downside though, is that sometimes when I wake up, I look like this:and the worst part about that is sometimes Ian doesn’t tell me that I look crazy and so I end up walking around all day looking weird. I guess I should probably look in the mirror more often.
Okay, bye! I’ll post Mal’s birthday pictures sometime next week.

Almost one year ago, I did my first engagement session. My husband, my son, and my brother-in-law all took a road trip to Oregon. We have friends and family out there and decided to visit. It was my first time in Oregon, but it most definitely won’t be my last. It’s gorgeous out there! So green! I’m not sure if I could get used to the weather, though. I like the sun.

Anyway, it was perfect timing because our friends Billy & Stephanie had recently gotten engaged and they were awesome enough to let me take their pictures.

I met Billy & Stephanie through my husband & mutual friends. My husband’s sister, Rachel, has been bffs with Stephanie since they were in elementary school…so Ian (husband…I  don’t think I’ve said his name on here before! Weird) has known her for quite some time, and I consider myself extremely lucky to know them!

I can honestly say that Billy & Stephanie are probably some of the nicest people I have ever met. I think it’s impossible not to feel loved when you are around them….they just radiate love. They are also extremely talented. I don’t think there is anything that Stephanie CAN’T do, especially when it comes to art and creativity. Stephanie is an artist, a singer, a musician (check out her Youtube here)…any part of you that wants to hate her out of pure jealousy of her talent is completely erased as soon as you spend ten minutes around her. 🙂 I wish I knew more about Billy, but I do know that he is also extremely musically talented (as you should see on her Youtube channel!). I haven’t spent as much time with him as I have with Stephanie, but every time I have talked to him he has been nothing but warm &  friendly. When I asked them if I could take their engagement photos, (I was nervous about approaching them about it, I’m not gonna lie…) they responded with nothing but positivity and excitement.

I really enjoyed capturing their love for each other. Since these were taken when I was still working on interacting with people I’m shooting, I was really bad at directing them. I didn’t know how to pose them, I didn’t know how to talk to them, I was pretty clueless.  Luckily, they were so natural and comfortable in front of the camera as well as with each other, that they didn’t need me to talk them through it. 🙂

These are my personal favorites from the set, but you can see more on my Flickr, as usual.

My fairy tale photo shoot  & my photo shoot with my cousin Sierra were the last photo shoots I can do until I have the baby. I’m tired. I can’t be on my feet getting myself into awkward positions to find the perfect angle. At least not when someone is relying on me to last more than 10 minutes. So from now on, most of the pictures I am going to post until sometime in May (when I overload you with pictures of my new baby girl!!!) are going to be of Malakai. Or Sadie (my dog). Or Ian (husband). Basically, you are going to be attacked with pictures of my family…and there’s nothing you can do about it.

For those who don’t know, I’m currently 31 weeks pregnant. I actually just did the math today to get the exact week (I’ve done a terrible job at paying attention to that stuff) and I was completely shocked to realize that I only have 9 weeks left to go! It’s very exciting. Luckily, my doctor didn’t put me on bed rest (YAY!) so for these next few weeks, Malakai can enjoy being an only child and have my full attention!

After having a 3 hour Blue’s Clues marathon, Malakai ever so politely walked over to me as I was cleaning up after lunch and demanded, “SIDE! SIDE! SIDE!” while pointing at the sliding glass door. Lately I’ve been reluctant to take him outside because it’s been windy and cold, but today was actually really nice (plus the lighting was AMAZING!) so we spent the afternoon in our backyard and had a mini photo shoot. 🙂 He picked flowers for me!

This is our tree trunk. Recently, during the giant storm that hit So Cal, one of the giant branches from our tree in the backyard attacked our fence. We heard a loud crashing noise and came out to find a good portion of our fence had been taken out by the tree and they had to cut it down. The thing was dying/rotten and hideous anyway, and I kinda like the way our backyard looks without it. But yeah. Pretty crazy!

After playing outside (forever), we came back in and Mal did some more posing for me! (have you noticed that he LOVES wearing clothes??)

This picture was an accident, but I actually kinda like the way it turned out! 🙂

And last, but not least, little Malakai demanded to take pictures himself (“Mama, I seeeee! I seeee!” while pointing at his eye and then to the camera…how could I say no to that?!) so I let him. Believe it or not, he actually holds the camera up to his  eye like he sees me doing. He’s very meticulous about it. I have to help him push the button though. Anyway, usually his pictures are blurry or overexposed or of me making a really weird face, but today he actually took a cool picture!

So there ya  have it. My little boy is amazing. Once I’m done being pregnant, I will certainly do more posts about photo shoot I am doing, but for now you’re just going to have to enjoy my family stuff. 🙂

For awhile my husband and I were having a really difficult time putting our toddler, Malakai, down for bed. He would scream, kick, cry, and fight us tooth & nail every step of the way. Naturally, this was extremely frustrating for the both of us (especially since I’m currently pregnant & hormonal).  But! Thankfully we have finally gotten him on a normal schedule and now putting him to bed is my absolute FAVORITE! Instead of the kicking and screaming and fighting and crying, he is talking to us and telling us every single story he can remember. Since he’s not talking in complete sentences yet, we can only pick out a few words here and there. Tonight it was all about how it rained all day, and how he threw his favorite stuffed animal (a little puppy he named Row Row) and mommy & daddy told him no and he cried, how his Papu (grandpa) showed him a video game and people screamed (one of those “build this thing correctly or all these people in this train plummet to their death” games, you know…). You get the picture. Anyway, it’s one of the sweetest things in the world and one of the many things that I love about being a mommy!

Andddddd, here’s some of my latest pictures of my adorable & amazing little boy. Ya know, since this is a photo blog and stuff. 🙂

See? I told you he was adorable and amazing.

EDIT: I hate how WordPress compress my files and they look so icky when you click on them. Anyone know how to fix this, or is this the price I pay for using a free blog site? In the meantime, I will post onto my Flickr like I usually do.

Last weekend, not only did I do a Fairy Tale photo shoot but I also did a photo shoot with my cousin Sierra. I was really excited to shoot her because she LOVES the camera! Not to mention, she is beautiful!

As soon as I picked up my camera, this girl knew what to do at all times. All of her smiles were so genuine! This was the first shoot I have done with a child that was not my own, and even though she’s related to me I was a little nervous…but I quickly realized that I had nothing to worry about because this little girl knew exactly what to do in front of the camera. America’s Next Top Model, watch out!

The rest of the set can be seen on my Flickr!

I decided to make a new blog for the new year (yeah, I’m a little late). I’m not very good at blogging, but since it’s “the new thing” I thought I would give it a try.

This weekend I had a Fairy Tale themed photo shoot. My good friend Mike (well, his parents…) lives in this AMAZING mansion in Apple Valley, CA and we were lucky enough to schedule this shoot just in time before it was sold. I wish I could describe in great detail how gorgeous this house is, but I think I’ll just sum it  up with this: Pond. Bridge. Forrest. Giant windows. On top of a hill. Jacuzzi tub with a swan head faucet. Four fireplaces (although, there could be more that I’m forgetting about…).

When I think back to this day, all I remember is a giant blur. There were lots of people that I had to shoot and not only a limited amount of time, but horrible, freezing weather! It was certainly a challenge and I was running around all day like a chicken with it’s head cut off, but overall I think it was a success. If there’s one thing I learned, it’s that next time I need to learn to manage my time better…and possibly acquire weather controlling powers.

We had one hair/makeup artist (Heather Straling, hollerrrrrr!), nine models, two assistants, and a partridge in a pear tree…so that should give you an idea of how busy we were. Heather really worked her butt off and did an amazing job on everyone, so a BIG BIG thanks to her. I couldn’t have done it without her!

And now, on with the show!

Snow White

Evil Queen

Good Fairies

Bad Fairies

Little Red Riding Hood

Mad Hatter

Mad Tea Party

Weee! I need to give a BIG BIG BIG thanks to everyone who made this possible. To all my models and assistants, who endured wind, rain & snow, to the Bedells for allowing us to temporarily trash their place, to my husband for sacrificing his weekend to do this for me, & to my parents for babysitting my kid & my dog. Haha.

To my models: I know you are all anxious for me to upload the Facebook friendly pictures (WordPress compresses my pictures and that’s why they look so funky) but just keep being patient and I will get them on there. You can look at the good versions on my Flickr, but this entry was just a teaser! I have more to come within the next week or so. 🙂
